Kennecott Copper Holdings

ALFA utilized inferential qualitative and simulated finite element modeling methods coupled with field analysis to optimize the firing of a refining and anode casting copper holding furnace. The objective was to determine if liquid copper flowing into a 25 ton holding furnace, at a rate of 48 tons per hour, on interval batch cycles of 12 tons per 15 minutes can be superheated to 150F. As a result of this study the existing holding furnace was retrofitted with a high efficient oxy-fuel combustion system.
